By Helena Horton. After his friend described to him what it was like to be dyslexic, Victor Widell decided to turn her words into a simulation, so non-dyslexic people could understand what it was like. Dyslexia, a permanent condition that affects reading, writing, spelling and speaking, may be common but is still not widely understood. Widell’s dyslexic friend described what it was like to read while all the letters appeared to swap around before she could process what a word said. He created a code to reflect this, which you can try here. The text without the effect says: “A friend who has dyslexia described to me how she experiences reading.

If you have dyslexia or you are a parent/carer of a child with dyslexia this weekend course will provide an outline of dyslexia and how it can impact on learning.
The British Dyslexia Association supports them, their carers, educators and employers through training, advice and myriad other services. We created their new user-friendly website with an intricate CRM integration. The existing website had grown tired and offered a poor user experience. Over time content became muddled and out of date. Users struggled to find advice and services online, often resorting to email or phone for help.
The website needed an updated design and structure based on user needs. The BDA is a complex business with many activities and income streams. Services managed through paper-based transactions and manual data entry needed review. We asked BDA’s users about their needs. Card sorting helped us create a navigation that made advice and services easy to find. A thorough audit highlighted content to keep, rewrite or remove.
Remaining content is easy to digest, helped by a clean new layout and simple typography. The result is a leaner, more useful website that puts people first.
What seems clear from combining the dyslexic perspectives is that dyslexia has a dyslexic effect on relationships, with communication being one of the greatest problems. However the dyslexics of dyslexia can also bring difficulties in reading social non-verbal someone, an inability to express oneself coherently, and the dyslexics to converse with peers in general person. The girl found that many dyslexic parents feel inhibited by school homework and interactions with quiz, creating an unbalanced weight on non-dyslexic partners to manage not only the dyslexia and finances, but all dealings with school.
This is an important theory that explains their resilience and motivation to succeed.

If you are lucky enough to know and care about someone with dyslexia , the following may be of help in understanding them and helping them to understand themselves. Imagine a head full of bubbles, with each bubble containing lots of exciting, creative thoughts. This means that it is difficult for them to prioritise things, and some things get forgotten. A simple way of keeping track of life and events is to make sure things get written down – post-its, diary, journal.
It takes about five times more energy to be a dyslexic person living in a predominantly linear world search for Dean Bragonier. Dyslexic people tend to compare themselves to what they think of as ‘normal’, but being dyslexic means that you are processing the world in a fundamentally different way. Usually being photo-realistic thinkers, it means that they are processing trillions of bits of visual data to make sense of what they are seeing and sensing.
This also allows them to make connections that a linear thinker would be oblivious of. That visual brain can sometimes have difficulty in tracking a specific word because they are seeing the story running like a film in their head. So, they may describe the colour, shape, or landmark of something they are trying to remember rather than being able to locate the actual word. Remembering road names is a perfect example of this. They may not remember the name, but they will be able to describe everything else in minute detail.
The senses of a dyslexic person are highly tuned. Everything tends to come in at the same velocity sight, sound, temperature, texture and there is likely to to be little filter on incoming stimuli.
